Nordhavn,
formerly known as Pacific Asian Enterprises, continues to be a successful
partnership between Jim Leishman, Dan Streech, and Joe Meglen in Dana Point,
California dating back to the 1970’s. With manufacturing taking place in Asia,
the builder originally began with a 43-foot sailboat but emerged with
powerboats in the late ‘80s with the 46-footer. Forced to look beyond the US in
the early ‘90s when the Luxury Tax hit the marine industry hard, Nordhavn began
an international marketing effort.
Nordhavn’s
expertise in creating vessels capable of global passage and owner-operation has
allowed them to quickly and easily jump into the megayacht and superyacht
markets. The large new factory in Xiamen, China, allows for 1,000 workers and
the construction of Nordhavns up to 1,000 tons (approximately 200 feet) with
the first Nordhavn N120 superyacht delivered at the end of 2012.
